Careers & Language Contributors

Sona News is growing language by language. The English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, and Korean editions are already live, so this page focuses on the next desks we are preparing.

Languages we are preparing next

If you can edit, review, or contribute in one of these languages, we would like to hear from you. These are early-stage calls for launch preparation, not a bulk translation queue.

  • Chinese: editor or cross-border localisation reviewer
  • Arabic: editor or regional context reviewer
  • Hindi: editor or audience reviewer
  • Russian: editor or international affairs reviewer
  • Turkish: editor or public-service context reviewer
  • Polish: editor or EU and consumer context reviewer
  • Indonesian: editor or mobile audience reviewer
  • Vietnamese: editor or technology and public-service reviewer
  • Thai: editor or travel, health, and consumer context reviewer
  • Swedish: editor or Nordic context reviewer
  • Norwegian: editor or Nordic context reviewer
  • Danish: editor or Nordic context reviewer
  • Finnish: editor or Nordic context reviewer
  • Czech: editor or Central Europe context reviewer
  • Hungarian: editor or Central Europe context reviewer
  • Romanian: editor or EU and consumer context reviewer
  • Ukrainian: editor or regional context reviewer
  • Greek: editor or public-service context reviewer
  • Hebrew: editor or regional context reviewer

What the work is about

  • Making international stories read naturally in the target language, with the right local phrasing and context.
  • Reviewing headlines, introductions, source context, and social copy before a new edition goes public.
  • Helping Sona understand reliable local sources, institutions, public datasets, regulators, and reader expectations.
  • Checking cultural and geographic context, especially for languages read across several countries.
  • Supporting a careful launch: one strong article in each core Sona category before a normal publishing rhythm begins.

What is not open right now

We are not currently inviting general desk applications for English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese, or Korean. Those editions may need specific contributors later, but they are not part of this call.

Some future desks may start with freelance review, launch help, or occasional contribution rather than a staff job. We will confirm scope, process, and compensation before asking anyone to do paid work.

How to get in touch

Email [email protected] with the subject “Language desk interest - <language>”. Include your working languages, location or time zone, relevant editorial or translation experience, and links to public work if available.

For specialist review, audience, SEO, or social-localisation interest, use the subject “Sona contributor interest” and tell us which language or market you can review.

Sona will never ask candidates to pay application fees, buy equipment through a third party, or send sensitive identity documents through social media messages.
